 Ms. Tanaka, Patent Attorney registered also as procedural attorney in litigation on infringement of intellectual property rights, joined Ohno & Partners in 2002, and became a partner of the firm in 2004. Her major practice area is communication and information technology. Before joining the firm, she has 10-years work experience for Toshiba Corporation and 2-year work experience for Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP. She graduated from the University of Tokyo as B.E. and M.E. in Electrical Engineering.
Since joining the firm, Ms.Tanaka has been acting as a leading patent attorney in many cases of patent litigation and dispute, including “Word Processor Ichitaro (Help Icon)” case, “Dual Screen Mobile Phone” case, and various medical instrument cases. For “Japan-U.S. Patent Mock Trial” sponsored jointly by Tokyo District Court and Waseda University in 2003, she represented the Plaintiff to use doctrine of equivalence in Japan. In actual cases, she is specialized in finding out essence of technology from voluminous research results in complicated cases involving a number of patents, to establish precise logic in infringement and validity issues.
In parallel with litigation/opinion work, Ms. Tanaka is doing patent prosecution work both for Japanese companies’ Japanese and foreign patents and for overseas companies’ Japanese patents. In those activities, she makes use of her experiences as an in-house attorney in charge of patent portfolio creation and patent clearance in research and development (in Toshiba) and as a U.S. patent agent representing U.S., European, and Asian companies (in Finnegan). In patent prosecution, she endeavors not only to pursue a strong right in each case but also to consider a comprehensive strategy on all the cases related a specific business. |
